CULVER CITY, CA –– American Gladiators has officially debuted and the results are in-- AG is a hit. Published reports mention that American Gladiators received a 5.9 preliminary rating among 18-49 year old viewers, good enough for 12 million viewers. 'Gladiators' finished second in viewing during the 9pm hour before taking home the #1 spot during the 10pm hour. AG garnered NBC's highest non-sports ratings since the 2005 Golden Globe Awards.

Ratings aside, American Gladiators received mostly postitive reviews. Variety magazine praised the reincarnation, but also criticized the lackluster hosting and slow-moving pace of the show. Those observations are popular in the Gladiator community-- many think the sideline hosting of both Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali is, well, stale. In addition, the show cut to commercial several times and used pre-and-post event interviews to slow the show down. AG has also scaled the action back, from seven events to five.
